Football: No tea party for Bluebirds at Boston.(Sport) - South Wales Echo (Cardiff, Wales)

CARDIFF City and newlypromoted Boston United meet for the first time next month.

The Bluebirds face a near 500mile round trip to Lincolnshire in the first round of the Worthington Cup after Boston won a preliminary round tie 2-0 against Bristol Rovers last night.

Second-half goals from teenage striker Steve Burton and Simon Weatherstone steered Boston into a first round tie against Cardiff City which will be played at York Street on Thursday, September 10, or Wednesday, September 11. Boston acting manager Neil Thompson described the draw against Cardiff City as ``brilliant''.

The Nationwide Conference champions of 2001-2002 were deducted four points before their first Nationwide League season began, for financial irregularities, and after three Third Division matches are still on minus two. Cardiff City have an Avon Combination reserve match at Ninian Park today with central defender Spencer Prior aiming to earn a place in the starting lineup and the fit-again Jason Bowen both aiming for a place among the substitutes.
